The Liberal-Republican Union, or Liberal Republicans, is the third-largest political party in Seredinia by seats in the Zemsky Sobor and currently the junior partner of the governing Social Democratic-Liberal Republican coalition. The party is one of the newest in the Seredinian Assembly, having been founded in a 2002 merger between the centrist Liberal Party and Republican Front. It has been led by Alexander Osennykh since 2008.
The Liberal-Republican Union was founded officially by Liberal Party leader Lenora Chernyaeva and Republican Front chairman Yuriy Golovnin after both parties disappointed in the 2000 general elections and subsequent sub-national contests. A combination of both former parties' platforms, the LRU is a centrist, classically liberal party. It has joined in coalitions with both the left-wing Social Democrats and the right-wing Kadets, though current party leaders have stated that they will not join a coalition with the latter party while it is led by Dominika Tolstova and President Anatole Apraxin.
The Liberal Republicans hold a minority of seats in the lower Zemsky Sobor with 27, and through their coalition with the Social Democrats maintain a 23 seat majority. They are the third-largest party in the upper Federal Council with 5 seats.
