Limpus, officially the Directorate of Limpus, is a nation in western Mars. It is bordered by Arsis to the east and Unincorporated Mars to the north, west, and south.

Limpus ranks high for civil liberties and moderately low for political freedom. Limpus has always been a mining nation and used to have horrible ratings of civil liberties. Forced labour was common, however Limpus has drastically improved civil liberties in the last century. Most civil liberties are generally respected, however political freedom has not progressed and still remains restrictive.

Limpus was the first colony to be established on Mars for the mineral rich soil and ore found around and in Olympus Mons. This still remains as Limpus’s major exports and produces little else. The reserves of minerals do not show any sign of depleting and the Limpian economy has been extremely stable with consistent growth as technological capabilities have increased.

Etymology

Limpus was named after the extinct volcano that makes up almost the entire country. The volcano was first named Olympus Mons after Mount Olympus from Greek mythology. Over the centuries, the name was shortened as with most names and words.
