List of Regions and Territories in the Thalassic Federation

The Thalassic Federation is a federal republic consisting of 29 regions, 7 major territories and 4 unincorporated territories. The majority of these regions are small island republics spanning both the Imannic and !Indian oceans. According to the Federation Constitution, the 28 individual regions are each sovereign jurisdictions, this allows states to exercise all powers of government not delegated to the federal government. These include regulating intrastate commerce, running elections, creating local governments, and ratifying constitutional amendments. Each state has its own constitution and government, consisting of three branches: executive, legislative, and judicial. All regions and their residents are represented in the federal Parliament, a bicameral legislature consisting of the Senate and the National Assembly. In the federal government each region is represented by 2, 4 or 6 senators, depending on their population, and are delegated representatives to the National Assembly based on agreed upon electoral divisions.

Despite being within the Southeastern Highlands region, the Capital city of Nelson is exempt from the ordnances and legal decisions of the Southeast Highlands regional government, instead parliament has exclusive jurisdiction over the federal district of Nelson.

In addition to the major regions, the Thalassic Federation also includes 7 major territories, these are smaller jurisdictions with populations under 100,000 and do not receive senate representation, however they still mantain self-government and a minimum of one representative in the National Assembly. The unincorporated territories of the Thalassic Federation is the Thalassic Antarctic Territory, which includes Edwin Island, Cape Island and Antarctic territories for which the Federation exercises exclusive jurisdiction. Due to not having any permanent residents, the unincorporated territories do not receive National Assembly or Senate representation.
