This is a list of battleships of the Royal Ossorian Navy from the development of the oceangoing ironclad to the 1980s.
Creachadóir-class
The two Creachadóir-class ironclads were the first class of ocean-going capital ships built for the Royal Ossorian Navy that both did not carry sails, and which mounted the entire main armament on top of the hull on the centerline of the ship in two armored turrets set fore and aft of the superstructure rather than inside the hull along the broadside.
The ships were initially laid down in 1869 and scheduled for commissioning in 1871, but the loss of the LB Celtchar, a steam and sail powered turreted ironclad, to a hurricane in 1870 put construction on both the Creachadóir-class and the following Deirdre-class on hold pending the investigation of a board of inquiry. This was due to concerns that the combination of armored hulls and turrets made the ships fitted with them particularly unstable in heavy seas with dangerously low freeboards.
As a result of the board's findings, the Creachadóir-class was redesigned for increased stability and freeboard. Following their commissioning, both ships in the class were subjected to various tests of their stability, which included having several hundred men repeatedly run from one side to the other to induce the ship to roll several degrees off balance and purposefully taking the ship out in heavy weather. The results of these tests were used to improve following ironclad designs.

1874-1906 | Scrapped |
Deirdre-class
The two Deirdre-class ironclads were designed as enlargements and improvements on the preceding Creachadóir-class. The ships were initially scheduled for commissioning in 1876, but the loss of the LB Celtchar steam and sail powered turreted ironclad to a hurricane in 1870 put construction on both the Deirdre-class and the preceding Creachadóir-class on hold pending the investigation of a board of inquiry. This was due to concerns that the armored turrets made the ships fitted with them dangerously unstable in heavy seas.
As a result of the board's findings, combined with the findings of tests carried out on both ships of the Creachadóir-class, the Deirdre-class was redesigned for increased stability and freeboard.
The Deirdre-class were the final warships built for the Royal Ossorian Navy to be outfitted with muzzle-loading guns at the time of their commissioning.

Ferdiad-class
The six ships of the Ferdiad-class ironclads were the final iron-hulled ships built by the Royal Ossorian Navy. They followed the pattern set by the preceding classes of ironclad while still incorporating a number of design improvements and lessons learned from practical experience gained from operating the prior two classes. To help reduce top-weight and thus improve the overall stability of the ships, the Ferdiad-class replaced the two fore-and-aft twin-gun armored turrets of the preceding classes with a pair of pear-shaped open-topped barbettes in the same positions. The Ferdiad-class were also the first ships built for the Royal Ossorian Navy to be outfitted with torpedo tubes.
