The Luftstreitkräfte (English: Air Forces) is the primary air component of the Reichstreitkräfte. The primary mission of the Luftstreitkräfte, from its inception, has been the direct support of land forces involved in combined operations, as well as providing tactical strike and interdiction support to the Bodentruppen, with its secondary role being air defense and air interception missions. This approach is generally unique among air force's of the world, which tend to focus on air superiority over tactical attack aircraft.
