The Luminovian Canal is a major artificial waterway located in Jedoria. The canal connects the interior Jedorian Sea with the Tyranese Sea. The Canal also serves to function as a quasi-official boundary between northern and southern Jedoria, and as the boundary between the states of Radstadt and Bessarabia. Construction of the Luminovian Canal began in 1971 and was completed in 1978, at the cost of 7 billion Jedorian credits. Completion of the canal was two years behind schedule and an excess of cost of nearly 2 billion credits due to a number of technical and planning issues that arose during the construction. Despite such issues the canal's completion ushered into an era or of regular shipping traffic averaging nearly 1,500 vessels per year. Traffic fell sharply during the Jedorian-Mozrian War due to targeting of Jedorian shipping by AVA air and naval forces. The economic stagnation of the Socialist Republic saw the canal's traffic decline to less than 300 ships per year. During the Jedorian Civil War the canal became the border between rebel controlled southern Jedoria and Socialist controlled northern Jedoria. The canal suffered heavy damage during the war, with repairs to return it to use completed in 2013. Today the canal averages 2,200 ships per year.
