Madrigal, officially the Metropolitan Province of Madrigal is the capital of Carloso. It is by far the most populous metropolitan area in the country, encompassing 33,194,295 inhabitants. It has been the centre of Carlosian political and economic power for nearly half a millennium, founded by the Spanish in the 1530s. It continues to serve as a major hub of international finance and trade, and is regarded as Carloso's second industrial centre, after Ebon. Madrigal is bordered to the north by the major satellites of Preston and TBA, and is surrounded on three side by Madrigal Bay. The Metropolitian Province of Madrigal is split into 37 administrative counties, including County Madrigal; which is defined as the original boundaries of the city and serves as the administrative centre of all Carloso, and contains the parliament building, many of the government departments and also several noteworthy historical buildings.
Following the defeat of Bourgougia in 1951, efforts to rebuild areas devastated by Bourgougian air raids began in earnest.
Much like the rest of Carloso, the people of Madrigal are of overwhelmingly of White European origin, with ancestry mainly taken from the Iberian Peninsula or British Isles. Approximately 28% of Madrigalian residents reported European ancestry that originated outside of these two regions. Of those with Non-European ancestry, the most common countries of origin are Lebanon, Riysa and Nifon. Well over half of Carloso's entire non-European population live in the Metropolitan Province of Madrigal, numbering approximately 600,000.
