Maria III (Portuguese: Maria José Isabel Pedro Alfonso de Saxe-Coburgo-Gota e Bragança; born 8 July 1978) is Queen of Portugal. The only child and daughter of King Joseph II and Queen Isabel, she ascended to the throne on 5 June 2016 following her father's passing, becoming the third Portuguese queen regnant in almost 190 years since the reign of Queen Maria II.

A successful Olympian in her youth, Maria was a prolific swimmer for Portugal over a decade-long career, during which she won various medals at the Olympic tournaments as well as other international swimming competitions, including the FINA World Aquatics Championships and the European Aquatics Championships. In the meantime, despite her preoccupation with sports, Maria also saw much progress academically, having graduated with a bachelor's degree and later a master's degree in economics from the University of Porto.

In 2009, she married Portuguese lawyer, Donato Cortes, with whom she had two sons, namely João, Duke of Braganza and Infante Diogo.
