Meretica (also known as the Great Atlantic Empire and the Belecthorian-Meretican Empire) is a political union of states across Europe and North America in a confederal feudal elective constitutional monarchy with emphasis on states' rights, devolution, and political freedom. Meretica is allied with Southeast Marajarbia, South Olpen, and members of the World Treaty Alliance. Meretia is a former member of NATO, the GCN, and the GA.

Prior to April 1, 2037, Meretica was governed by a parliamentary-presidential constitutional monarchy. The last monarch was Queen Sinestra; the last President was Mark Kefauver. After Queen Sinestra's death, a national convention was held to determine the fate of the government moving forward. Governor Catron of New York hosted the convention, and it was decided that the Meretican government would be reorganized into a Holy Roman Empire-esque confederation of states that could determine their own paths into the future. There were 78 states formally recognized at the end of the convention, and the 79th (Maugrym) was officially annexed into the nation. Governor Robinette Wilson-Carter of Michigan was selected to serve as Emperor for a two-year term under the regal name "Robin." Pope Pius II of the Belecthorian Societal Orthodoxy faith (a Christian denomination including 95% of Mereticans) crowned Emperor Robin in a private ceremony.

The states of Sicily, New York, and Michigan have come out as the largest power players. All three are influential on the international level and are closely allied with South Olpen.
