Sir Michael Callahan Scott, (born 20 December 1957) is the Private Secretary to Queen Alexandra. As Private Secretary to the Sovereign, he is the senior operational member of the Royal Households of the United Kingdom.

Early Life

Michael Scott was born on the 20th of December 1957 to a middle-class family in Suffolk, England. As the eldest out of five siblings, Scott was recorded to had possessed a "controlling, but somewhat a respectful and warm" approach to his much younger siblings. He later underwent his school years in his native Suffolk.

Career

Upon graduating secondary school, Scott chose to pursue a career with the Royal Navy, inspired by his love for ships and his concern for the ongoing Cold War. Commissioned as a Midshipman in 1977, he did not see initial action until the Falklands War. During the conflict, he became acquainted with the future William VI, then the Prince of Wales. Despite their brief encounter, the two men would maintain close correspondence throughout the years up until the king's demise in 2017.

Following a subsequent promotion to the rank of Lieutenant, Scott would further maintain an active service with the navy until 2002, before formally retiring as a Captain.

In 2007, following the resignation of David Michaelson, he was appointed as the former's successor, owing to his close friendship with the king. During his seven years long tenure, he further developed a close personal relationship with the royal family, which would later guarantee his immediate promotion to Private Secretary upon the resignation of its former holder, The Lord Armstrong in 2014.

Following the passing of the king and the subsequent coronation of Queen Alexandra, he was reportedly asked on a personal level by the queen to maintain his position, owing to their close bond and Scott's close ties with the royal family. This offer was quickly agreed upon and he has since remained in office.
