Mirlavar is the commander of the anglir and a subordinate of Bel and is said to be the god that visits the battlefields with the anglir and picks the glorious fallen up to be taken to Bel in Gyllenheim where they are allowed to join the army of the gods to fight at the end times. While he is not made from silver like his father so does Mirlavar sparkle in the sun and his skin is known to shimmer like the purest silver. His hair is long and fair and his beard is said to be braided and long.
He is also known to carry the lur Aldragir that he will blow nine times at the end of time which will open the gates to gyllenheim as the holy army will march down to midgard to do battle with the evil hordes of darkness. After a battle however does he blow it once which awakens the dead souls and allows them to stand up and follow the anglir to the heavens.
Birth
Mirlavar is said to be the son of Bel and one of a higher ranking Anglir. It was said that in the old days so were the Anglir closely related to the high spirits that became humans but they lived in their own halls. Bel having heard about them rode to their lands and challenged their greatest warriors to duels and managed to dispatch them all in single combat. Amongst the fallen were the king of the Anglir and Bel took his daughter as his lover as he stayed amongst them for a long time as their ruler.
However he left them and rode out once more to find more adventures amongst the mortals as the daughter of the king gave birth to a son. Just like his father did the son have shimmering skin that sparkled when the sun touched it and he quickly grew up to the mightiest of all warriors amongst the Anglir. One day however did his father return once more with his own king, Rasmer, leading him. Seeing the king of the gods did Mirlavar fall to his knees and swore fealty to the god-king and was allowed to rise up as the drotin of the anglir and a high ranking officer in the divine army under his father.
Mirlavar in the sagas
Mirlavar is often held up to be the very male ideal from a Scanderan viewpoint by being patient, loyal, chaste, strong, willing to avenge wrongdoings, obedient to his superiors but also kind to his inferiors and servants. This makes him one of the few gods that have not taken a lover nor fathered children of his own, however so are he also known to be a rather helpful individual and he has more than once appeared in the sagas, either by talking to fallen heroes granting them one last request or welcoming them to Gyllenheim and especially Silferhall.
Children
Mirlavar is not known to have fathered children in the sagas but instead is he the commander of the angilr, the fiercest of the warriors of the gods that are often called his children even if this is metaphorical. The anglir however are mighty warriors standing heads taller than even the largest trolls, humans and high dwarves with heads burning like the gods and with long white wings eternally burning with righteous fire that allows them to fly over the sky. However so are the anglir also known to be able to shift shapes and can appear as a humble mortal and are also known to have a true shape that only the gods, spirit and demons may see as the holy sight would burn the eyes out of lesser mortals.
These warriors however are often seen as absolute and wrathful creatures that smite the unholy and the unfaithful when they see them and only very few warriors in the holy chronicles have been known to be able to stand up to them or even win. The anglir have also been known to take on both spirits, dragons and demons without much trouble.
Worship of Mirlavar
Mirlavar is a deity mostly worshipped by soldiers and there are several rites to him to ask for his blessing in battle, either for him to take the soldier to the afterlife or asking him to spare them in the coming battle. Even civilians are known to pray to him on the behalf of soldiers, most of these civilian rites are just blessings in general and ask him to take care of the glorious warriors but there are also more specific prayers on the behalf of a loved one to either ask Mirlavar to take the soldier with him or that the man will be spared combat and sent home.
There are also some spells, especially summoning rituals, that are dedicated to Mirlavar and mostly so are the summoning of anglir dedicated in his name.
