History

Multilever was founded in 1930 after soap producer Vanaf & Co. and food producing Levers Voedsel decided to merge. Both companies were competing for palm oil, as it was a major ingredient in soap and in many foodstuffs. This recourse was expensive during the economic crisis at the time, and competing each other for palm oil wouldn't bring down prices. After seeing their sales go down due to the high prices they needed to charge their customers because of the "palm oil war" both companies decided to do a merger. The companies merged to form Multilever. The name, Multilever, comes from "leveren" to provide, or to deliver. Multi comes from the Latin "multus", or many. "Many (is) delivered" would be the correct translation. Since the merger the company was the largest food and personal care product producer in Lindenholt. However, during the Battle for Lindenholt in the Second Great Sunalayan war the company's factories were destroyed by the Lindian army. After the war the company began from scratch. With the funds they were given by the Lindian government they invested in thousands of square kilometres of farmland in Lindenholt. This, along with technological advancements in the field, made Lindenholt a food exporter and self sufficient in food. After selling simple unprocessed crops they set up their first actual factories in 1954. Demand was high for relatively cheap luxury goods, and Multilever delivered exactly what was asked. The success of the company after the war formed a strong basis on which the company could grow to be one of the largest of the world.
