The Nashorn CAR ('Rhino' Counter-Assault Rifle) is a heavy assault rifle (or commonly referred to as 'automatic rifle' or 'battle rifle') designed and manufactured by Wolf Armaments. It is a magazine fed, selective fire, shoulder or mounted-fired automatic rifle system. The heavy assault rifle comes with its own heavy rifle cartridge, the 8.20×60mm WA CTA, although variants are available for more common ammunition (such as NATO or Russian Bloc cartridges, or other Commoner cartridges). Operation relies on an adjustable gas option selection system, allowing shooters to shoot low, medium, or high powered for specific roles; to reduce recoil from the cartridge and gas system, Nashorn utilizes a unique hydraulic buffer system that is coupled with a barrel break system often seen on powerful guns. This combination has greatly reduced the recoil produced by the forces of the weapon - add the comfortable weight of the barrel and weapon and users can fire the weapon with high stability and comfort.
Seeing the availability, a gun smith in Wolf Armaments presented an idea for a new weapon system similar to the aged M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle. The employee is a frequent shooter and a collector of firearms, his idea came after wanting to have a "modern BAR" to own himself. Ideally the rifle was to have improved recoil control and act as a support weapon rather then the primary armament for soldiers; it had to have uses in multiple missions, firepower, and be versatile to the mostly AR incorporated Commoner military. Said employee actually hoped it would replace many of the automatic weapons used by the TECT Armed Forces, such as the LSW Mare and automatic variants of existing weapons. Although talks of this actually happening are still ongoing, many lighter infantry forces like Commoner Foreign Legion and branches like Royal Guard have taken interest in the weapon, fielding a variable number of them.
Nashorns are made primarily of high-impact resistant plastics and high grade aluminum alloy parts for light weight and versatility; it is waterproof, sealed internally, and easily maintainable/disassembled/reassembled. The cold hammer-forged barrel provides a stronger barrel for greater safety in case of an obstructed bore or for extended firing sessions - it is further enhanced with chrome lining to increase durability and corrosion resistance. As a quick fix to over-heated barrels, Nashorn features a quick-release operation that allows an operator to remove the barrel and insert a new one with moments ease. Modifications for an over-the-beach (OTB) capability, such as drainage holes in the bolt carrier and buffer system, are used to enable the Nashorn to be fired safely after being submerged in water or in other extremely wet conditions. The blend between AR and AK design is enjoyed by many who see it as a combinations of both worlds - magazines are available that resemble AK or AR designs. A free-floating hand-guard is made of reinforces nylon and is lined with accessory rails for numerous equipment choices; the rails extend to the rear and front of the weapon depending on their placement. A high pressured gas system paired with the 8.20×60mm WA CTA makes the Nashorn one of the world's most deadly assault rifles - it is likely one the more heavier and high powered as well. As a squad supporting weapon, Nashorns can unleash automatic, four-round burst, or semi-automatic fire on targets with deadly precision. Snipers or marksmen can also utilize the Nashorn, providing stealthy or highly accurate fire on enemies from long ranges.
Variants
Nashorn 7mm
Nashorn 7 millimeter is a variant intended for use among Commoner or NATO operating forces. It features a barrel and firing operation swap that is suited for the 7.58×54mm WA CTA or 7.62×51mm NATO. This variant is often labeled the Nashorn-BR since it uses more standard battle rifle cartridges.
Nashorn Russian
Simply referred to as the "Nashorn Russian", this variant is designed to fire the popular 7.62×54mmR cartridge, which is popular among nations that operate Soviet derived weapon systems. Not wanting to exclude states that prefer Soviet arms, Wolf Armaments wanted to make sure an equipment swap was available for such purchasers who use said cartridge.
Nashorn A2
The official ceremonial firearm of the Imperion Coalition and its Foreign Legion, the A2 model of the Nashorn is a sleeker and lighter version of the Nashorn. Most of the differences accumulate to user friendliness, including the use of more lighter hard-plastic than metal, an an adjusted recoil system that has been improved, and some minor changes to used components (such as a new barrel compensator/flash hider, solid rear stock, and comfortable handguard). Nashorn CAR A2 comes in the above mention calibers.
Simunition Conversion
Conversion kits are available for all models of the Nashorn CAR; they include a bolt carrier (partly colored blue to distinguish it), blank-firing adapter for firing blanks, and an upper receiver colored blue to distinguish it for its practice use. The standard kit will also include a laser transmitter for laser combat systems to use; such systems would include individual soldiers carrying small laser receivers scattered over their bodies, which detect when the soldier has been illuminated by a firearm's laser. Each laser transmitter would be set to mimic the effective range and potential damage of the weapon on which it is used. Depending on how complex the laser combat system is, trainers can retrieve immediate results and statistics compiled by the system; such examples include readings that give medics a digital readout to determine which first aid method to practice and probability readouts. Using the conversion kit, the Nashorn CAR can seamlessly integrate into these laser combat systems.
