National Open Universities are higher education institutions in Laeral that exist separately from the standard network of public Laeralian universities. The NOUs are highly competitive, prestigious institutions that receive a separate status within the Ministry of Education; NOU graduates tend to make up the higher echelons of Laeralian social, corporate, and political life. The aim of the NOU system is to turn Laeral's finest students into well-educated individuals capable of making immense contributions to Laeralian progress.
Admissions
In contrast to their name, National Open Universities are extremely selective. Admissions rates for NOUs tend to range from 15-20%, with applicants selected through application processes including Laeral's national standardized exams. The NOU system also accepts a substantial number of international students; roughly 20% of NOU students are international.
List of National Open Universities
Universities within the NOU system are established (or absorbed) by legislation in the National Assembly. At present, there are 19 National Open Universities. These schools receive greater funding than other Laeralian universities and tend to attract the most qualified teaching instructors.
