The National Party (Venadian: Национальная Партия, transcript: Natsional'naya partiya) is a far-right political party in Venadia that emerged from the final merger of the Patriotic Party and the Greater Venadia Party in 2016. The negotiations between the two parties to merge had begun already in 2006, and the two parties competed on joint list in the national elections of 2007, 2011 and 2015. The parties had also cooperated on regional and local elections, typically by only one party officially contesting while nominating members of the other party. While the larger Patriotic Party was pushing for a full merger, the aristocratic Greater Venadia Party was hesitant and even in 2015 only determined by a narrow majority to merge with the Patriots. A minority of former GPV members left the party in protest, the majority joining the Unity Party.
Policies
- Supports a corporatist economical model based on the cooperation of State, Labour and Capital.
- Supports the traditional Venadian aristocracy.
- Supports limiting welfare payments to Venadian nationals, including the national minorities who have assimilated into Venadian culture.
- Opposes open immigration and wishes to limit migration to nationally compatible migrants.
- Opposes foreign aid, and wishes to turn that money to public works in deprived areas.
- Opposes federalization, and wishes to roll back autonomy granted to some Volosty.
- Supports the traditional family, and opposes granting special rights to homosexuals.
- Supports greatly enhancing the punishment for crimes such as rape and murder.
Organization
The National Party is based around its central leadership, who have the right to appoint regional leaders who in turn have the right to appoint local leaders, although these are often based on the wishes of said local groups and regional groups. The National Party has a total of thirteen different regional subdivisions, and more than a thousand local groups. The National Party still has some overlapping local groups based on old Patriotic Party and Greater Venadia Party local groups, but these will be merged by 2018.
The National Party maintains the Patriotic neighborhood protection group, the Patriotic Defence Alliance. This consists of around a thousand members, spread throughout Venadia, but particularly in the bigger cities and has been tied to racist acts and vandalism.
Membership
The National Party estimates its membership to be 125,000, making it one of the largest parties in Venadia. Members pay a bi-annual due of 4 NSD.
Electorate
The National Party is diverse in terms of its social make-up, but attracts particular support from the lower class and the aristocracy. Its supporters are overwhelmingly ethnic Venadians, as well as some support among White Venadians and Sumer Germans. The National Party's core areas is Kandovy and Southern Venadia, attaining little support in the Capital Region, Belavenadia, the North, the East or the South-East.
