Nuovatoscanan Italian, also called simply called as Nuovatoscanan, is the standard dialect of the Italian language in Nuovatoscanan Guiana. It is based on the European Tuscan and Corsican dialects; however, it was heavily influenced by African, Indigenous American, Spanish, Portuguese, English, French, and Dutch influence. Mutual intelligibility between Nuovatuscan and European Italian is high but it is marked with different pronunciation and vocabulary exclusively used in Nuovatoscana.
History
Dialects
Nuovatoscanan Itlaian has four major dialects, mainly, West, Center, Eastern, and Southern dialects. The first three roughly correspond to Southern, Northern, and Central Italian dialects and languages respectively and follows the pattern where Italians of a particular region settled a province in Nuovatoscana. The Southern dialect is considered an Afro-Nuovatoscanan dialect and mainly spoken by speakers of Sranan Tongo.
Due to heavy Corsican settlement in Caiena, spoken Nuovatoscanan Italian is now said to be an intermediate between Standard Italian and Corsican, and it was said to follow Italian orthography to conform to Standard Peninsular Italian.
Phonology, Grammar, and Orthography
1. Median "z" is pronounced as "s" in Nuovatuscan as opposed to "ts" in Peninsular Italian. Z at the beginning of the word is pronounced as /z/.
2. "h" as a starting letter is not silent unlike in Peninsular Italian and is pronounced as such.
3. "r" is consistently trilled.
4. "s" and "z" are consistently voiced.
Lexicon
Nuovatoscanan Italian preserved words lost or obsolete in Italy, and at the same time, incorporated words from Spanish, Portuguese, Sranan Tongo, and other languages. Also, Nuovatoscanan Italian incorporates words from various Italian regions that are not present in European Standard Italian but are considered as normal in Nuovatoscana.
