Landmasses of Earth (dark grey) and Cel (light grey) at their proper sizes and positions/latitudes

Cel is the same size as real-life Earth, but its land area is much smaller – covering around 2.5% of the planet's surface (about the size of China), compared to 30% for earth. Its population is likewise much smaller – just under 300 million (smaller than the USA), compared to Earth's 8 billion. Despite the fact that it is almost entirely covered in water, the oceans of Cel are much shallower than those of Earth – only 1000 metres deep on average. A large area of the oceans (more than thrice the size of Cel's total landmass) in the southern hemisphere and opposite the continents (where southern Africa and the Indian Ocean are located on Earth) is only an average of 90 metres deep; this area, known as Sulenza, was above the oceans during the last ice age, but was never inhabited by anything more complex than mossy plants, insects, and aquatic creatures.

The extremely high percentage of the planet covered in water means that Cel has a much more mild, temperate, and rainy climate than than of real-life Earth, as well as much less climatic diversity. Choineam – the northernmost country – has a temperate oceanic climate, while the southernmost nation, Notius, has a largely hot-summer Mediterranean climate. All land is located north of the equator.
