The Office of the Auditor-General, or OAG, is the supreme audit institution of the federal government of Fratanica, which provides auditing and oversight services for the National Diet. The office is responsible for conducting financial audits of federal governmental institutions and examining the financial structure of federal bodies, state-owned corporations, and statutory corporations.
The Auditor-General is informally agreed upon by the leadership of both the National Assembly and the Federation Council, and then approved by the National Assembly with advice and consent from a parliamentary majority. The Auditor-General is appointed to the position for a total of 6 years with no renewal.
History
The Office of the Auditor-General was created on 4 June 1944, as the need for an independent oversight office became a priority of the legislature. The office was established under the Government Oversight Empowerment Law of 1944, which both created the office and gave the authority for the body to conduct federal audits. The first Auditor-General of Fratanica was Javier Pernot.
Since the creation of the office, both houses of the National Diet have used it to provide oversight over the executive branch and its associated agencies. The committees and subcommittees have used the body to investigate various discrepancies or scandals within the federal government.
