The Oroshan National Assembly, or more formally, the National Assembly of the Oroshan Democratic Republic (Oroshan: Kikŋaʔvəvi paŋksisavəvi qaʔłŋavnočints sisavŋaʔvqitjak, Jogin: 양치기 민주 공화국 입법부) is the unicameral, governing legislature of Oroshia. It, together with the President of Oroshia, form the political government of Oroshia. The legal leader of the National Assembly is the Speaker, currently Nivkał Itiŋičəğvot, who has held the position since 2016. The National Assembly convenes in the legislative office, also known as the National Assembly, located in the capital city of Sochvel. The National Assembly is composed of 126 members, elected every four years on October 1 using a closed-list Sainte-Laguë method of proportional representation.
History
First established in 1958, when Oroshia was granted home rule, it became the sole legislative power in Oroshia after independence in 1964, and for which the first independent elections were held in the same year. The legislature has been dominated by the Freedom and Democracy—Union Party, in various iterations, since independence, much like the presidency.
