Osorio is the federal capital city of Trenado and province capital of Guaiba. It is located in the easternmost region of the country, close to the Atlantic Ocean (approximately 17 kilometers of distance). The city is - along with Porto Alegre - the center of the country's largest metropolitan area, with over 4 million inhabitants (2022).
The city was founded on 12 August 1783, originally named Augapés, and was renamed in 1814 after late Trenadian marshal Suso Perera Osorio, also being recognized as the nation's capital the same year.
