The Oued Labkheir is the principal river of Salamat. Its source is in the Khaliwi mountains, the river being probably formed from the melting of ice and snow on the Mount Araz, even if it isn't proven to be true. The river flows for more than 487 kilometers across the western portion of Salamat, and reaches its largest width at 1.3 kilometers, near of the city of Dhayyab. The river's path is used as a border between the Shawayiyah Province and the Ghafunya Province and the river's water is used for irrigation of wheat, sunflower, corn and rarely cotton fields. The river's mouth is located 2 kilometers west of the village of Mahmuma, in the province of Shawayiyah.
