The nobility of Lyncanestria are those persons who possess the legal status of hereditary nobility as bestowed by the laws and traditions of the Lyncanestrian monarchy. Since 1923, conferral of titles of nobility rest solely with the Emperor, whereas before the Kings of Burgoy and Antenfoi were also given the privilege of granting noble titles into the peerages of their respective federal realms. Titles of nobility and peerage are bestowed by the monarch, as part of his prerogative, with the advice and consent of the Crown Council.

History

The nobility of Lyncanestria traces back its roots to the fief-holding knights of the Latin and, later, Audonian empires. This system of vassalage eventually came to form the current nobility system, with powerful lords conferring titles and lands to knights and soldiers who proved loyal bannermen. With the foundation of the Holy Audonian Empire, the bestowing of noble titles came to rest solely in the hand of the Emperor and a handful of Audonic states, namely those of kingdom rank.

When Lyncanestria was founded as a federal monarchy following the war against Seredinia-Vannois, the newly formed empire recognized those titles that had been bestowed by its predecessor states. Additionally, the three federal states of kingdom rank (Barrois, Burgoy, and Antenfoi) retained their separate peerages.

In 1923, the Law Regarding the Peerage of the Empire established that the emperor would be the sole conferrer of titles in Lyncanestria. However, while it revoked the federal kings' ability to grant titles of nobility, it did not abolish the three other peerages, and titles previously granted by them are still recognized in Lyncanestria. The law also established the Deputation of Titles and Peers of the Empire, an office under Parliament that approves newly created peers and resolves legal disputes regarding titles.

Ranks

The five ranks of the Lyncanestrian nobility are duke, marquis, count, viscount, and seigneur.
