Pelunia (officially the Pelunese Unification, Apolonian: Unificazione Peluniana) is a sovereign country consisting of the mainland of the Purenian region, a large part of the island of Jutus and a number of smaller islands and archipelagos. Pelunia is the largest country in Pacifica by area and the eighth largest country in the world. It consists of 22 federal units, eight large unincorporated territories, 13 smaller outlying islands, one special administrative territory and two associated controlled areas. The Pelunese Unification is the eighth largest country in the world by both area and total land area. It borders the Anpenian Islands to the north across the Gulliar Sea and Torselia to the south, and has maritime borders with Ebivia, Merinia, and other states to the west. With a population of more than 216 million, they are the most populous country in Purenian region, the fourth most populous in Pacifica, and the sixth most populous in the world. The capital of the Pelunese Unification is Nnenlac and the most populous city and main financial center is Hippomari.
By nominal GDP, Pelunia is the largest Pacific economy, and by GDP in purchasing power parity terms, the third largest (after Jutumaria and Ebivia). Their economic output is about a quarter of the Pacific-wide GDP. They are the world's largest importer and second largest exporter. They have become a symbol and pioneer of a protectionist market-based economy, in many ways inspiring Jutusia or Ebivia. Compared to Jutusia, however, they show less redistribution of wealth and greater economic disparity among the people. They rank eighth in the Pacific in nominal GDP per capita, twelfth in GDP per capita in purchasing power parity, and thirteenth in the human development index. The Pelunese currency, the eglon, is the main reserve currency of the Pacific. Pelunese industry and commerce has achieved outstanding results and conquered markets throughout the Pacific (Traxa, Bolguuz, Voyager, SC Frixxa, Belyren, Rakmusi via Tus, Zewa, BibaaCorp, Vathys, Zenith, Oscorp, Acheton).
By most criteria, they are the most militarily powerful country in the Pacific. More than thirty percent of military spending in the Pacific is in Pelunia. They are a nuclear power and one of the few countries to have used nuclear weapons in military operations. They are one of the three leading members of the Pacific Assembly. Geopolitically, they are ranked as a superpower, a status they gained primarily after the end of the Fourth Azurian Nuclear War. After the end of the national civil wars, there was even talk of them being the sole superpower, which has now changed, especially with the more substantial role of Jutumaria, Ebivia, Anpenia and the Jutusian countries. The relations of the Pelunese Unification with the Jutusian countries and especially with Europe are specific, since it was the European powers that colonized the Pacific, only to face the revolt of the local colonists and the independence movement. However, due to the rise of European languages and, as a result, Apolonian as the main and official language of Pelunia, the specific link between Pelunia, the Jutusian countries and Europe persists. The link with western regional Jutusia was determined by waves of immigration in the 20th century (especially from Eiweria and Vinalu), and was strengthened after the Apolonian liberation of this part of Jutusia from chauvinism in 1991. The Pelunese Unification then became the guarantor of security throughout the Pacific, among other things through the leadership positions of the Pacific Assembly's organizational structure. After the collapse of neo-Nazism in northern and southern Jutusia, it has forged similarly close alliances here, with Abralia in particular being a key ally for the Pelunians. As a superpower, however, the Pelunese Unification has sought to build peaceful alliance ties in all regions of the Pacific, with Anpenia being a key ally in Tenoch, Libutia in Siverey, Rascadia in Vapogia, and Astristan currently becoming such an ally.
Pelunese, or rather Apolonian, culture, especially traditional culture, has gained global influence (Thennebroux, Oscady, ablana, ospa and griosil, puriri, TV comedies), as well as the Pelunese lifestyle, to such an extent that, beyond Pelunese Unification, people began to speak of Pelunese and Apolonian cultural imperialism or Pelunisation (formerly Apolonisation) of life. Excellent results have been achieved by Pelunese science, high-technology and education (the university system with Scrantus at its head, the invention of the lithium or helium bomb, the foundations of artificial intelligence, the landing on Mars).
History
The first settlers arrived in Palavia, Calacatas and the large islands to the east more than 60,000 years ago, and from the 15th century Pacifica was first explored by Europeans. British, Portuguese, French, and Spanish explorers reached the Ardantian Islands, some of the Palavian Islands, and western New Epitrea between 1492 and 1502. Lloyd Russell, who later arrived in the highly developed Cambales Islands, made his first voyage to Terecia in the 15th century and first surveyed the eastern coast of Voltusia.
The arrival of European settlers in the following centuries led to significant changes in the social and political landscape of Pacifica. The region witnessed major battles during the Second World War, especially between the powers of Pelunia, Jutursia, Palavia, Ebinia and Voltusia and the power of Limusra. In more recent times, there has been increasing discussion about national flags and the efforts of some Tenochians to express their distinct and individualistic identity. The rock art of the Voltusian natives is the longest continuously practised artistic tradition in the world. Much of Pacifica's countries are multi-party representative parliamentary democracies, with tourism or mineral exports being a major source of income for the nations.
After extensive European colonization and the declaration of independence from the powers that be, a new continent called Azura was created on Earth because of the azure seas here. Azura was a peaceful continent, but after a series of international disputes that each time culminated in a continent-wide war, the continent was so decimated after the 4th Azurian Nuclear War that it virtually fell apart. Most of the continent's indigenous population perished as a result of the wars. After the partial end of the war, peacekeeping efforts were initiated by the last remaining combatant power, the Katowish Federation, but it disintegrated as a result of the war, and a radical group took over the leadership of the country and built a new federal system called the Pelunian Unification. The Pelunese ruling garrison is expanding its influence into the newly formed continent called Pacifica, trying to maintain control of it under the pretext of no more warfare.
