The People's Defence Forces (Faldarunic: ᚠᚮᛚᚴᛋᚡᛆᚱᚿᛆᚱᚴᛂᚱᛂᛁᚿᛁᚿᚵ, tr. Fólksvarnarkereining) also known as the PDF (Faldarunic: ᚠᚡᚴ, tr. FVK) are the collective armed forces and military of the Confederation of Faldarun.
Mission
The mission of the People's Defence Forces, as defined by Article 3 of the New Social Code, includes
- The protection of Faldarun's sovereignty, people and territorial integrity
- Safeguarding Faldarun's national interests
- The protection of the revolution
- and upholding the terms of the New Social Code
History
Creation
The Fólksvarnarkereining can trace it's history to the many leftist Confederal forces present during the Faldarunic Civil War: primarily the Black Liberation Army, Red Guards and Free Thrall Army. Additionally, specific branches of the PDF can trace themselves back to factions during the civil war: the Black and Red Revolutionary Fleet became the People's Defence Forces Navy and many members of the International Brigades became founders of the International Volunteer Legions or joined the PDF Army. During the civil war, each factional army and militia was structured differently and with differing levels of hierarchy, but most had a very loose format. At the 1919 Constitutional Assembly, it was decided that the various armies that had fought during the civil war needed to be united in order to form the basis of Faldarun's armed forces.

Coastal Defence Service
The Coastal Defence Service (Faldarunic: ᛋᛐᚱᚮᚿᛑᚡᚮᚱᚿᚦᛁᚮᚿᚢᛋᛐᛆ, tr. Ströndvörnþjónusta) is the branch of the PDF responsible for the defence of Faldarun's coastline. As Faldarun's borders comprise mostly of coastline, the CDS is one of the most important branches of the PDF, and plays an important goal in Faldarun's defensive doctrine.
International Volunteer Legions
Although Faldarun retains a mostly neutral stance internationally, it sometimes has interests which require an expeditionary force, or has citizens who wish to fight in a foreign conflict. The International Volunteer Legions (Faldarunic: ᛆᛚᚦᛁᚮᚧᛚᛂᚵᛋᛁᛆᛚᚠᛒᚮᚧᛆᛚᛁᚧᛆᛋᚡᛂᛁᛐᛁᚱ, tr. Alþjóðlegsjálfboðaliðasveitir) are Faldarun's answer to this. The IVL is, officially speaking, an independent organisation, however it is generally accepted to be affiliated to the PDF, and in general it answers to the PDF's military command. It is comprised entirely of volunteers, who have the choice on whether or not they wish to fight in any given conflict. Those who do decide to fight are transported to the conflict zone by either the PDF Navy or Air Force - or through independent means - and are able to return at any time they deem necessary. International observers have critised the IVL as a breach of international law, while others have lauded it for it's entirely voluntary nature.
