Prince William, Duke of Edinburgh (William Edward George; 17 February 1918 - 24 May 1941) was a British prince and Royal Navy officer. He was known as being the only casualty of royal background on the British side during the Second World War and as the only sibling of the famed King Charles III. Since his death, he has been posthumously revered as both a national hero and as a symbol of chivalry.
