Maria (Maria Zeva Astra Styliani; born 7 August 2000) is a Princess of Lihnidos. She is the third oldest child of Empress Stella II and Yorgos of Ikaria. She is considered to be third-in-line to inherit the Lihnidosi throne.

Maria was born in Cephalonia, Lihnidos at Leventi Palace on 7 August 2000. After her baptism she was considered to be fifth-in-line for the Lihnidosi throne behind her grandmother, mother and two older siblings. She moved up in position to fourth-in-line two months after her birth when her great grandmother, Empress Selene II, passed away. At the age of seven she was advanced in the line of succession again after the passing of her grandmother Empress Teresa. Maria began primary education education at Saint Anna's School for Girls at the age of five and continued to learn at the school through secondary education. She graduated from Saint Anna's in June 2018, and will begin at the University of Naxegion in 2019 after a gap year.

Early Life and Education

Maria was born on 7 August 2000 in Cephalonia, Lihnidos. She was born to Princess Stella (later Stella II) and Yorgos of Ikaria. She was the second daughter of the princess and third child. She was born at 7:49 AM at Leventi Palace after her mother was unable to secure transportation to the nearest hospital. She was delivered by the palace medical team. At the time of her birth she was considered to be fifth-in-line for the throne and was baptized on 20 August 2000. Her chosen Godparents were her mother's aunt Alexandra and her husband, Philip.

Maria's early childhood was spent primarily with her two older siblings Spyridion and Efthymia and her father Yorgos. During the first five years of her life her mother was often occupied with duties given to her by her grandmother, Empress Teresa. The absence of her mother caused a strengthening of her relationship with her father as he was the only parent she often saw and spent time with on a regular basis. Her two siblings at the time, only being two years older, spent much of their time with Maria, especially around the time she was five. The three often entertained each other while their father was unavailable. In 2005 Maria's mother took leave from her duties as crown princess in order to spend more time with her family. Maria slowly developed a stronger relationship with her mother.

At the age of five Maria was enrolled at Saint Anna's School for Girls. The prestigious and private Fabrian Catholic school was the same school that her sister was attending at the time as well as the school that her mother had attended during her youth. During primary education at Saint Anna's Maria performed poorly. Her performance in her primary education carried over when she transitioned to secondary education. She often would perform poorly despite being tutored by private tutors that were provided by her parents.

Maria graduated from Saint Anna's in June 2018 as thirteenth in her class. It was announced by the Imperial Palace in August of 2018 that she would be taking a gap year before beginning at the University of Naxegion in August 2019. According to the palace, she will be studying for a degree in strategic communications.

Role as Princess

The traditional role of a close sibling of the heir is to assist in the duties in order to prepare for the possibility that, as the third-in-line, she may one day become empress. Currently eighteen, Maria has participated little in assisting her sister in the administrative duties that come with the position of crown princess. Maria has been seen at several events hosted by the empress or other nobility in Lihnidos, as well as at events hosted by foreign royalty. It is widely believed that Maria's mother has disallowed her to participate in a more active role until she graduated from secondary school, the same time that Maria's sister was allowed to begin taking up the duties that came with the position. Following the announcement that Maria would be taking a gap year before beginning university, it was widely reported that this was so she could take a more active role in duties traditionally taken by the third-in-line.

Personal Life

Maria, much like her sister, has developed an interest in fashion and design. She had expressed interest in attending the Delis School of Design in Ikaria upon graduating from secondary school and has been seen at a number of exclusive fashion events throughout the country with her sister. She developed a large presence on several social media platforms where she would post photos and updates to her accounts several times a day. She was criticized on two occasions for actions taken on social media. The first, when she was sixteen, was when she began an argument with an internet troll that insulted how she looked in a picture she posted. Before the account was banned, Maria had made several disparaging remarks about the person about his likely socioeconomic class and status. While many came to her defense, she was widely condemned by left-wing groups for speaking in condescending ways and implying that the user's opinion wasn't important due to being, as she posted, "an uncultured pleb," referring to those of low socioeconomic class in the old Latin Empire. The second instance was when she shamed an individual on social media after the individual was seen on television questioning a policy instituted by Maria's mother. Maria responded by calling the woman, "fat and unattractive," and saying that she was, "surprised anyone could stand listening to someone with such an irritating voice." Following the second incident Maria stopped posting on social media, which is believed to be the doing of her mother and her mother's advisors.
