The Royal Radictistan Air Force Regiment (RRAF Regiment) is an infantry corps of the Royal Radictistan Air Force specializing in the seizure and defense of forward airfields. The RRAF Regiment comprises five company-sized Field Squadrons and two Flying Squadrons equipped with helicopters in the close air support and tactical airlift role. The regiment is comprised of volunteer personnel only.
Operations
184 Squadron of the RRAF Regiment was deployed to Indras as part of the Radictistani peacekeeping force. The squadron acted as the primary security unit for the force headquarters.
Selection and training
Candidates for the RRAF Regiment Field Squadrons must have served in the air force for at least two years, be a male between the age of 19 and 26, and be a Radictistani citizen. The RRAF Regiment Basic Course lasts for ten weeks where candidates learn the infantry skills vital for their role as an expeditionary ground combat force. Only about forty-five to fifty-five percent of candidates successfully complete the course and pass out into the Regiment.
Flying Squadron personnel complete the usual aircrew and maintainer training pipelines before undertaking the five week RRAF Regiment Air Liasion Course to master the tight coordination between ground and air units necessary for RRAF Regiment combined operations.
Organization
Each Field Squadron is comprised of a number of platoon-sized units known as Flights according to RRAF nomenclature. There are three Rifle Flights, each organized similarly to an army rifle platoon, a Weapons Flight with a variety of crew-served weapons, an Anti-Air Flight equipped with RBS 70 manportable surface-to-air missile systems, and a Service Flight. Each Field Squadron has a total of 194 personnel and is commanded by a Major (O-4).
The two Flying Squadrons each operate twelve Mi-17V5 tactical transport helicopters and four Ka-52 attack helicopters. Each Flying Squadron is commanded by a Lieutenant Colonel (0-5).
