The Ratvarg is a IFV that was adopted by Krigsmakten under the term "Transport bandlaggare" or "Carrier tracklayer" in English. It is named after the Scanderan ratwolf which is a small but ferocious predator that inhabits the southern plains of Imeriata, and most of the land south of Storflooden on both the Imerian and Erathian peninsulas. Just as the medium tank, the hammar class tracklayer so is the Ratvarg made by the vedian corporation "Kopparbergs automobil företag" and is a very common sight on federal battlefields.

Background

The Ratvarg IFV was designed as a replacement of the earlier Eralk class IFV. Originally so was the Ratvarg designed as a light tank to replace the Dagger class light tracklayer. However so did the federal military high command rule that the limited use of the light tracklayer mean that they should not replace it with a more modern model and instead commissioned the Ratvarg as and IFV on the condition that it would be enlarged and constructed with troop transport in mind.

Main cannon

The main cannon is the heavy 100 mm riffled low pressure cannon that can fire either conventional shells or the federal 100mm Self propelled shell for anti tank duties to give it the ability to engage enemies at truly horrific distances and able to engage enemy tanks. The main cannon can then elevate itself between −5° to +60°. With it's missile so is the Ratvarg able to engage enemies at ranges up to 5,000–6,000 meters.

The turret is outfitted with an automatic loader that carries 20 rounds and with an additional 20 rounds stored in the hull.

Secondary cannons

There are two secondary cannons in the Ratvarg tracklayer, the first is a light 30 mm coaxial rifled autocannon on the cannon tower. The warmachine carries 600 rounds in it's cannon tower with a firerate of 350 to 400 rounds per minute.

A second weaponry is the heavy 16 mm machinegun in the front of the main body and carries 3000 rounds for anti-personnel duties.

All weapons can be fired either on the move or standing still and the missiles are known to hit targets even if the Ratvarg is moving.

Armour

To protect itself so is the Ratvarg armoured by 55mm of layers of hardened steel, titanium alloys and ceramics. The armour can resist direct hits from a .50 BMG cartridge and it can withstand medium caliber projectiles and even shaped charge projectiles from the front. The flanks of the Ratvarg is as heavily protected as the front and the top of the IFV is protected enough to take a hit from a light artillery shell or a mortar.

Engine

To protect itself further and to stay combat in combat conditions so is the Ratvarg's engine located under the floor of the vehicle in the rear so the crew is stationed in the front of the vehicle while the troops enters the vehicle over the engine. In a similar manner so is most of the fuel stored under the vehicle itself.

Electronics devices

The Ratvarg is outfitted with a ballistic computer, electronic sensors, stabilising systems, a laser range finder. Systems for better sight and guidance for the gunners and a searchlight.

The commander is aided by a optical sight, a vision device for both day and night vision and a infra red search light. Recently so have it also updated the fire control system. This system is operated by a integrating a laser range finder and a missile guidance channel for better control of both rockets and cannons. Further more so have it been outfitted by a thermal imaging camera.

To shield it against chemical attacks so is it also outfitted with a chemical agent detector to warn the crew against chemical attacks.
