Reloslav Tysyacha (Venadian: Релослав Тысяча) is a district of the Republic of Venadia, and one of the most ethnically homogenous in the country with ethnic Venadians making up more than 97% of the population. The Tysyacha is overwhelmingly rural, and located east of Belavenadia and north-east of Proylopol Volost. The district is characterized by an extensive agricultural sector and conservative social and political attitudes.

History

Reloslav is considered by some historians to be the birthplace of Ardanian slavs. Tribes identified by archeologists as protoslavic has inhabited the area since the 12th century BC, with the formation of more organized slavic tribes and societies dating back to roughly the 2nd century AD. Reloslav is named after the most significant of these tribes, the Relo, who founded the marketplace of Armasnoy in roughly the 7th century AD.

In the 920s and 930s, Reloslav waged war on encroaching Breheimian raiders from the north who arrived on the waterways, and was one of the few to actually succeed under the reign of Voislav who united the tribes of Reloslav to fight the foreign invader. Voislav was declared the first Duke of Reloslav in 934 and established fortifications along the Damara river. Voislav's grandson, Boris of Reloslav, converted to Christianity during the Venadian Wars of Religion in 999 following defeat at the Battle of Biroslov against Venagorod. Reloslav fell under the influence of Venagorod at the same time, with the Dukes of Reloslav paying tribute to the city until its integration into the Republic of Venagorod in 1096.

Reloslav was the location of the Reloslav Witch Trials, the last extensive witch trials in Venadia proper.

Reloslav was one of the areas that joined Ivan Apalkov during the Apalkovist Rebellion in the 18th century, and punitive measures against the population were put in place.

Economy

Reloslav is a relatively poor district, and the poorest Venadian majority district. The district remains deeply reliant on agriculture which makes up 22% of GDP and employs roughly a third of the workforce. In addition to agriculture, other important industries are food-processing, healthcare and education. The district is one of the least urbanized in Venadia. Historically, Reloslav's economy was considered one of the stronger in Venadia due to its abundance of fertile soil.

Politics

Reloslav is considered a very conservative district, being the sole district where the Christian Democrats have regional seats. Reloslavian Boyars continue to play a large role in Reloslavian politics, and the Unity Party has been in most regional governments since 1948, barring 1961-1965 and 1985-1989.
