Relations between Rodarion and Belfras have spanned more than two millennia since the time of the Romulan Empire and the numerous smaller kingdoms of antiquity Belfras. Throughout most of their respective histories, there has been numerous conflicts and animosity between the Belfrasian entities and Rodarian. Relations between the the Kingdom of Belfras and later the Belfrasian Empire and the Papal States were tense throughout their existences. Numerous border wars and naval engagements in the Sorrentine Sea began the norm between the 18th and 19th centuries eventually culminating in the Nos Callis War and then the Rodar-Belfrasian War, the latter resulted in a lasting peace, albeit relations never fully improved. It was not until the Cold War that relations improved as both countries formed key powers in the anti-communist alliance, yet as the Cold War ended and tensions between the WECA powers increased, they did so too between Rodarion and Belfras.
Relations over the past two decades have been tense and calm at numerous junctures, it was not until 2014 that relations dramatically improved with a commitment by both Consul Ottavio Civitarese and Prime Minister Aaron Sentar to develop stronger political, cultural and economic ties. However, despite the great progress made the Rodarians refused to relinquish their claim to Nos Callis province, yet recognised Belfras sovereignty over the province in late 2014. Relations further improved following the 2014 Nos Callis attacks, in which the ruling Catholic Church in Rodarion excommunicated the terrorist group known as the Soldiers of Romula and vowed to destroy them should they seek refuge within Rodarion. However relations would again deteriorate in late 2015 with the Rodarian intervention in Bogoria, relations are now considered tense by many commentators and may take form in unofficial clashes over the Former Western Confederation States.
Due to the nature of Rodarian-Belfrasian relations, public opinion of both countries remains low, despite reaching 64% with positive views following the Nos Callis attacks in 2014, Rodarion according to recent polls has only 31% of Belfrasians expressing positive views, whereas only 28% of Rodarians view Belfras positively, with many citing Nos Callis and Belfras' comments about Rodarian politics as 'insulting'. Despite the tensions, Belfras is Rodarion's fourth largest trading partner, whilst Rodarion is Belfras' second largest trading partner.
