The Roessan-Asterian War is a conflict that lasted from late-1840 to mid-1847 between the Federation of Asteria and The First Roessan Empire, and is the bloodiest conflict in Roeselle's history. The war was the result of many things, but was most-closely related to the expansionist policies of both nations during that period. It was a long, brutal, and personal war between two nations who were once friends, and saw to the destruction of much of Roeselle and the Asterian South as well as the toppling of the Rousseauist regime. It was the first and only time two countries would be at war, and soured relations between the two countries until the Great War, when the two found themselves allied. The war serves as an excellent example of the downsides that came with 19th Century Expansionism.
Background
The outbreak of the Roessan-Asterian War can not be directly blamed on one single thing, for it was instead a cluster of factors that led to the outbreak of the most destructive war in both nations' histories. WIP
Outbreak of Conflict
Throughout the late-1830s and into 1840, relations between the Federation and Roeselle deteriorated to a level of non-existence. After the Roessan Government refused to renounce their claim on the Montgomery Territory in February of 1840, the Federation withdrew it's ambassador. It was an action that Roeselle followed. Regardless of severed political ties, the Federation still believed that it could convince Roeselle to hand over it's territories through economic intimidation. In April, 1840, the Federation launched the total embargo of all products going to Roeselle, which included wheat, cotton, and raw materials. WIP
