The Royal Erin Regiment is an infantry regiment of the Imperial Vionna-Frankenlischian Army. Founded in 1880, the regiment is recruited from the Duchy of Erin and consists of three full-strength battalions and three reserve battalions.

History

Kenegan War

At the outbreak of the Kenegan War, two companies of the RER's 3rd Battalion were based in Kenega and became embroiled in the San Rositan invasion. B Company were based at Port Faronham and elements were involved in the Battle of Faronham, although a portion of the company were evacuated to Owaya aboard HMNS Ourapeka. A Company were based at Ewickford Barracks in Kenega City and took a significant involvement in the evacuation of Kenegan notables to the coast, escaping Ewickford along with a squadron of the Earl of Hackett's Own Lancers at the tail end of the Battle of Kenega City. Several officers and other ranks from A Company were evacuated with the battalion colours but the majority remained and were killed, captured, or escaped into the Kenegan interior.

9th (Royal Erin) Infantry Brigade, containing 1st and 2nd Battalions, was selected to make up part of OTF Kenega. The three companies of 3rd Battalion which remained in Vionna-Frankenlisch successfully campaigned to be included in the Task Force, with officers arguing that it was a matter of honour for the depleted battalion to fight in Kenega where the other two companies had been destroyed.

Current Structure

As of July 2022, the Royal Erin Regiment consists of six battalions. Three (1st-3rd) are regular service battalions at full-strength. Three (4th-6th) are Reserve List battalions on 1/5th strength. This makes for a total strength of 3,600 troops. As the main regiment for the Duchy of Erin, hostilities battalions raised within the duchy will be attached to the RER.
