The Royal Navy Auxiliary (RNA) is a majority civilian-manned fleet that is controlled and funded by the Royal Navy and Ministry of Defence respectively. Given the Royal Navy's responsibilities of protection to the country's colonies across the world, the RNA allow the fleet to maintain operations away from port for prolonged periods of time. The RNA maintain a fleet of vessels capable of resupplying the Royal Navy with fuel, ammunition, food, and other goods via replenishment at sea (RAS). During a time of emergency, trained Royal Naval personnel would take command of select RNA vessels that would be at the greatest risk during an engagement.

Although considered both logistically and organizationally a part of the Royal Navy, it utilizes a large number of civilian ship personnel who are officially members of the Civilian Merchant Navy and have a different rank structure to the RN. During times of peace, members of the Royal Navy Reserve jointly operate vessels alongside civilian contractors.

Vessel's who are chartered by the Royal Navy for temporary operation are also brought under the Royal Navy Auxiliary banner, be it a long-term charter, a short-term, or a charter for a single one-way voyage. Vessel's operated by the Royal Navy Auxiliary are not considered Commissioned vessels, and are referred to with the prefix HMAS (His/Her Majesties Auxiliary Ship). Hull designations of the Royal Navy Auxiliary vessels are pre-fixed with the letter C-, referring to the civilian nature of the vessel's class. Most ship's in the Royal Navy Auxiliary are civilian manned either by civil service mariners, contract crews, or manned by a joint Royal Navy Reserve/Civilian crew as is the case with Survey, troop ships, and minesweepers. Ship's on charter or equivalent retain their commercial colors and bear their original hull designation.

In 1972, the Royal Navy established the Emergency War-Time Merchant Act, which would allow the Royal Navy Auxiliary to requisition as many Belfrasian-flagged commercial vessels as is deemed necessary to successfully conduct Auxiliary missions for the war effort.
