The Royal Radictistan Prison Service (Radictistani: Dukliche Radictistanische Gefungnisdiens) is an agency responsible for operating all prisons in Radictistan. The prison service is part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs along with the national police organizations although Prison Service personnel have limited police powers.

The Royal Radictistan Prison Service operates 207 prisons containing 1,724,000 inmates.

Personnel

Prison Service personnel are divided between the Uniformed Service, responsible for security at prisons, and the Support Service which performs administrative and technical functions. The officer-in-charge of each correctional facility, known as a Warden, comes from the Uniformed Service and almost invariably holds the rank of Chief Officer. Only members of the Uniformed Service have police powers and only on prison grounds. As with all other law enforcement personnel in Radictistan, prison employees are forbidden to unionize.

The Chief of the Prison Service (Chef der Gefungnisdiens) is a senior civil servant appointed by the Grand Duke. The Chief is not necessarily appointed from the ranks of the Prison Service.

Twelve Prison Service employees were killed in the communist insurgency in Norcustsur. All but two belonged to the Uniformed Service. Three were killed in a KPR ambush of a prisoner transfer convoy and a fourth was killed at his home. Another eight personnel, including two of the Support Service, were killed during the KPR raid against the Royal Prison Kopfbarg which freed 27 prisoners.

The Prison Service is equipped with a variety of small arms. All personnel are qualified with the Beretta 92SB 9mm semi-automatic pistol. Those of the Uniformed Service are also trained to use the Steyr AUG A2 assault rifle, SPAS-12 shotgun, and HK UMP submachine gun. The Prison Service makes extensive use of non-lethal weaponry such as CS gas, mace, and bean bag rounds.

Facilities

High Security (Hochsicherheit) prisons house inmates who have been convicted of serious violent crimes and all other prisoners who have been deemed a maximum flight risk. General (Allgemeine) prisons are the most common type of correctional facility and house the majority of inmates with sentences exceeding one year. Short-Term (Kurzfrist) prisons house all inmates having received a sentence of less than one year. These prisons have a minimum level of security.

Two special types of correctional facility also exist. Juvenile Centers (Jugendzentrums) house offenders who have not reached the age of seventeen, the age of majority in Radictistan. Three high-security psychiatric hospitals known officially as Secure Hospitals (Sichere Krankhase) house prisoners with mental disorders requiring treatment in a dedicated setting.
