Rykborg (Faldarunic: ᚱᛦᚴᛒᚮᚱᚵ) is the largest city in Faldarun by population, containing roughly 8 million people. It is located in the Austurland region of the country, and constitutes its own department, the department of Rykborg. Due to the vast history of the city dating back to the 900s, and the central importance of the city during the Faldarunic Revolution, the city is home to the greatest number of cultural heritage sites in Faldarun, and is an important tourist destination. The city is home to 50,000 of Faldarun 350,000 communes, and is comprised of five historical 'districts'; Gamallbær, Elskahall, Konungs, Lægrihverfinu and Nýbaunir. The districts play little role in the modern administration, however many city services are localised by district.
Areas comprising Rykborg had been inhabited by Faldarunic settlers since at least the late 800s, and the area was known by many names. It was not until 979, and the official foundation of the city, that the area was known as Rykborg. It was later named Heilög Ásbjörnssborg after Emperor Ásbjörn II, however the city reverted to it's original name during the Faldarunic Civil War, and the rule of the first Rykborg Commune.
