The Secret Intelligence Service of Valentir (Gaullican: Service de renseignement secret de Valentir), commonly referred to as SIS or SRS, is the principle national intelligence service of the government of the Federal Republic of Valentir. The SIS is a conglomerate agency that operates three separate branches tasked with handling domestic, foreign and military intelligence. It is responsible for collecting, analysing, reporting and disseminating intelligence on threats to Valentir's national security, and conducting operations, covert and overt, within Valentir and abroad primarily through the use of human intelligence (HUMINT). It also reports to and advises the President and Government of Valentir on issues that threaten the security of the nation.
Domestic and foreign intelligence and security services are handled by the Federal Security Bureau (FSB) and Central Intelligence Service (CIS) respectively. The Military Intelligence Directorate is responsible for all non-civilian intelligence and operations. The SIS has no official law enforcement function and is mainly focused on intelligence gathering and analysis. Despite a primarily overseas focus the SIS officially operates in conjunction with the Federal Police Agency, Department for Justice and Department for Home Affairs regarding judicial matters.
Though it is not the only agency of the government of Valentir specializing in HUMINT, the SIS serves as the national manager for coordination of HUMINT activities across Valentirian intelligence agencies. Moreover, the SIS is the only agency authorized by law to carry out and oversee covert action at the behest of the President and the National Defence Council.
