The Secretary of State for the Union, also referred to as the Union Secretary, is a secretary of state in the Government of the United Kingdom, with overall responsibility for promoting the preservation and continuation of the union between the constituent countries of the United Kingdom through the Department for the Preservation and Continuation of the Union. The incumbent is a member of the Cabinet of the United Kingdom, currently David Mundell, whom was previously the now-defunct Secretary of State for Scotland, until the office itself, along with its constituent equivalents, were collectively merged to form the current office of Secretary of State for the Union, as part of a cost-cutting effort by the British government in light of the inflation crisis.
