Sergei Chernenko is a prominent Venadian trade unionist and President of the Venadian Confederation of Labour since 2010. Chernenko is a carpenter by trade, and attended the South Khandagrad Trade School between 1976 to 1978, and became leader of the Union of Carpenters in 2001. Chernenko is known for his confrontationalist style, and as leader of the Venadian Confederation of Labour has organized a number of strikes and protests against various companies and government policies.

Chernenko is not a member of any political party, but has endorsed left-wing candidates of the Socialist Party, Aleksandr Myatlev of the CPV and independents in the parliamentary elections of 2011 and 2015 in his role as President of the VCL. Chernenko is considered one of the more radical Presidents of the VCL in recent decades, and is a self-described 'democratic socialist'. He is the first President of the VCL to not be a member of the Socialist Party since 1964.
