The Sergelen War of Independence is an ongoing military conflict in the Sergelen Steppe between the Democratic Republic of Sükhbaatar and the Independent Sergelen Confederation that was officially declared on the 10th of August in 2018 when Independent Sergelen declared independence from Sükhbaatar. The conflict is the result of the Sükhbaataryn Sectional Split as its root catalyst, as well as extreme poverty and lack of development within Sergelen. The conflict was initiated earlier by what was termed by the Sükhbaataryn government as the August Insurgency when an Isolaprugnan Plane being destroyed within the city of Erdenedalai, followed by the hostage situation and bombing of the Erdenedalai International Airport.
