The Socialist Party is a left-wing Democratic Socialist political party in Arkiasis. It was founded on 11 July, 1894 as the "Social Democratic Party". Later, in 1945 the party chaged its ideology from Social Democracy to Democratic Socialism and changed its name to the "Socialist Party". The Socialist Party is generally regarded as big tent party with many different factions, ranging from communists to social democrats.

Current Platform

The Socialist Party's primary belief is that democracy should also apply to the workplace. The party seeks to empower and encourage worker cooperatives in order to decentralize the economy and favour higher government regulation and increasing corporate tax. Their aim is to gradually transform the capitalist system into a socialist democratic system, based on the principles of justice, equality, solidarity and respect for nature and organized as a social and democratic state of law. The SP wants to achieve Socialism through Democratic measures by passing government policies in Parliament and through political activism to achieve the goal of workers self-management and worker cooperatives. The party also supports a "guaranteed basic income" as an alternative to the nations welfare system.
