The Federation of Stasso, most commonly known as Stasso, is a landlocked nation in north-central Euronia, bordered by the Slavic Union to the north, Rettoa to the east, Tyrtha, Arenacia, and Koblec to the south, and Hetangourn to the west. The country has a population of 8.87 million people, with the capital and largest city being Bohubem, and other major cities including Dniproyi, Myrance, Orlenec, and Belli. The territory that now constitutes Stasso was previously home to several ancient cultures and has been ruled by numerous empires and dynasties, including the Parabocan Empire, Kandson Kingdoms, and the Slavic Union. Stasso was a state within the Slavic Union until 1932, when it broke away and became independent in a war which saw intense fighting in Abastal and Ledyanaya. In 1991, a civil war broke out between secular socialists and orthodox factions, lasting until 1997 and claiming tens of thousands of lives. The three major political parties which formed after the war - the Orthodox Revival Party, United Stassos Opposition, and the Democratic Union of Stasso - form the National Assembly. Since the end of the war, newly established political stability and foreign aid have allowed the country's economy to grow. The country has been led by President Afanasyev Georgiy since 2004, who rules an authoritarian government. There is extensive corruption in the government, worsening political repression, and a lack of religious freedom and other civil liberties. Stasso is a member of the Coalition of Crown Albatross and the Alliance of Central Euronian States.
