Tamazgha (Takelat: ⵜⴰⵎⴰⵣⵖⴰ) was a classical confederation of Kel peoples inhabiting the Ninva desert, and large portions of the Periclean coast of Talahara. Traditional histories designate the legendary Queen Kaharna as the first ruler and founder of the confederation, although evidence suggests the confederation or a precursor thereof existed for at least three decades before the date of her ascension as its queen. The widely accepted theory in modern study of Tamazgha is that the alliance of various Kel groups did exist before Kaharna, while the famous queen served as the polity's first singular leader and helped unify the tribes of Tamazgha as a symbol across the confederation. The language spoken in Tamazgha was an early form of Takelat which predates the splitting of southern dialects such as modern Charnean Tamashek and northern Aman and Hadar language.
