Tay Ha-Neul (born March 12, 1990), known professionally as Tayneul, is a Anikatian singer. She is a member of Anikatian girl group Girls' Galaxy, its subgroup TTS. She has also recorded singles for various television dramas and movies as well as participated in a number of variety shows. Tayneul made her solo debut on October 8, 2015 with her number-one single, "Pictures of Sky", from her first album of the same name.
Early life
Tayneul was born on March 12, 1990 in Daegok, Anikatia. Her given name "Ha-neul" means sky in Anikatian, but can also be loosely be interpreted as an exhortation to "spread your dreams high like the sky". Her immediate family consists of her parents, an older brother and a younger sister. She knew from the early age of 11 that she wanted to have a career as a singer after seeing Voyage perform live in her town. Tayneul said "I was just so inspired by the music and wanted to be like them and the opportunity to around the world", which later came true when Girls' Galaxy traveled globally in 2011. As an elementary school student, Tayneul was discovered by a talent staff while riding in a subway train, who encouraged her to audition for S.G. Entertainment. She was accepted as a trainee at the S.G. Entertainment and commuted from Daegok to Antiytia on every Saturday to receive her vocal training. Later on, she won the first place at the SG Youth Best Competition and officially received a contract from S.G. Entertainment. She continued her training under and then debuted as a part of Girls' Galaxy in 2009.
Career
2008–11: Girls' Galaxy and solo activities
Tayneul debuted as a member of the South Korean girl group Girls' Generation in August 2008 as the leader of the group. Aside from Girls' Galaxy's activities, Tayneul has also made several solo appearances. In 2009, Tayneul released two solo songs, "Why" for the ANBS-2's drama. The song "Why" became popular on various online music charts. In April 2009, Tayneul became a DJ on RTA Radio's program Tayneul's Blast Radio, she gained the nickname "DJ Tay" while hosting this program. In January 2010, Tayneul participated in the song "A.N.T.I.Y.T.I.A" (along with U-Zero and Girls' Galaxy) as an effort to promote tourism for the city of Antiytia in Anikatia.
2014–15: TTS's debut
Tayneul and her band mate On March 28, 2014, after releasing the single "Miss You" for the ANBS's melodrama One Emperor Two Spirits, the song reached number two on Anikatian A-Pop Hot 100. The producer of the song, Lee Hae-woon, described "Tayneul is an astounding singer. She fully recognized the song in its entirety and communicated each part so precisely...even though this song demands the lowest note that a female vocalist can produce, Tayneul performed them supremely." In May 2014, Tayneul, along with two other fellow Girls' Galaxy members, formed a subgroup called Girls' Galaxy-TTS (or TTS), releasing their first mini-album titled Sparkle. The subgroup has a different musical direction and style concept from Girls' Galaxy, placing their focus on each member's vocal ability while the latter group emphasizes the songs and uniform group performances. The three singers also became the hosts for the ANBS's music show Music HUB from February 2014 to April 2015.
2015–present: Solo debut
In February 2015, she was featured in "Rock The Nerve", the title track of Geum's solo debut. Geum revealed that she personally requested Tayneul to feature in the song. In October 2015, Tayneul debuted as a solo artist with the release of her first solo album titled "Pictures of Sky". In October 2015, SM released her first music video titled "Pictures of Sky". She held her first concert titled "Tayneul's Special". On December 8, she won the award for 'Best Female Artist' at the Oriential Music Awards. The single was well received, topping several major music charts. Following the success of her first solo album, SG announced a digital single titled Dreaming Awake that will be released in February.
Personal life
Tayneul graduated from the Daegok Art High School, with a bachelor's degree in theater studies. She also received a lifetime achievement award at the graduation ceremony.
