The 7 Queen Revolt (1035AD-1054AD)
The 7 Queen Revolt in Choslow was a tumultuous and protracted civil war that engulfed the nation, leaving an indelible mark on its history. It was a period of intense power struggle, intricate alliances, and shifting loyalties as seven factions vied for control of Choslow in the wake of the collapse of the Solaria dynasty, after the last ruler died without ever having a partner. Lasting for a grueling 19 years, the conflict led to immense bloodshed, political intrigue, and societal upheaval.
The Seven Queens and Factions:
- Marilena Solaregim and the House of Solvha (Solstice Guard):
- Led by charismatic and ambitious leaders, the Solstice Guard aimed to establish a stronger central government and uphold traditional values. Drawing support from the conservative heartlands, they sought to maintain the status quo and resist any radical changes, and to go back on certain liberties. The name originated from the fact much of this faction wore bright white uniforms often, and was a jab at how they never made any moves.
- Rozalia Poklons'ka and the House of Tunsiec (Luminary League):
- Representing the interests of the urban elites and intellectuals, the Luminary League advocated for sweeping political reforms and greater societal equality. They sought to challenge traditional power structures and promote progressive ideals in governance. The name originated for the people in this league tended to be some of the brightest of that generation, as well as the use of nighttime warfare, and big moments were luminated by the moon.
- Inessa Arnbjorg and the House of Uritel (Reapers Coalition):
- Hailing from the rural regions, the Reapers Coalition rallied around a strong agrarian agenda. They aimed to prioritize the needs of farmers, and agricultural communities, striving for equitable land distribution and agricultural reforms. Much of this was for safer farming and landscaping to the environment. The name originated from much of the weaponry used by this faction were scythes and various tools from farming.
- Lyudmila Saga and the House of Shatriel (True Path):
- Comprising of religious zealots and spiritual leaders, the True Path aimed to establish a theocratic rule based on their particular religious doctrines. They sought to reshape the nation's identity and governance according to their spiritual beliefs. The name originated from the constant reference to themselves being the True Path, so most just called them that, though it was tended to be in a mocking manner.
- Arina Cernat and the House of Weok (Forge of Equity):
- Emerging from the industrial centers, the Forges of Equity represented the burgeoning working class. They fought for labor rights, improved working conditions, and a fairer distribution of wealth. Their vision centered around socioeconomic justice and workers' empowerment. The name originated because of their message and the various industrial centers around the country being under their control.
- Evgeniya Sarkipet and the Houses of Devia and Nyra (Tailchasers):
- Consisting of regional warlords and military commanders, the Tailchasers sought to carve out their own regional power bases within Choslow. Their ambitions for regional autonomy clashed with the goals of centralized control, leading to complex territorial conflicts. The name orignated from the fact these Houses and factions were heavily splintered, and were more often fighting within themselves than outside.
- Halyna Allochka and the House of Ydoa (Harmony):
- A coalition of marginalized ethnic groups and minorities, Harmony aimed to secure their rights and cultural autonomy within the nation. They demanded recognition, equal representation, and the preservation of their distinct identities. The name originated from their pacifist stance and their want to bring each of the Houses closer together.
Key Battles:
The war witnessed a series of pivotal battles and intricate political machinations. From grand military confrontations on vast battlefields to covert assassinations and betrayals within factions, the conflict showcased a kaleidoscope of strategies and tactics.
Battle of Pegao Plains-1045:
- The factions of the Solstice Guard, True Path, and Tailchasers clashed on the vast plains of Pegao, now called Ember. The battle was marked by fierce cavalry charges, strategic maneuvering, and the clash of contrasting military tactics. Ultimately, the Tailchasers's skilled warlords outmaneuvered their opponents and secured a crucial victory, solidifying their influence in the region. This is not after extreme casualties were felt on all sides after the Solstice Guard rained down solar fire upon the fields, causing it to catch a light, which in turn allowed the Tailchasers to really use it as a chance to burn everything in their path. This is considered the start of the end for the Solstice Guard and the True Path.
Siege of Dziewanna-1049-1054:
- The Luminary League laid siege to the fortified capital city of Dziewanna, a stronghold of the Solstice Guard. The siege lasted for 4 years and involved intense bombardment, underground tunneling, and desperate counterattacks. The Luminary League's relentless determination paid off, as they managed to breach the city's defenses, leading to the Solstice Guard's eventual surrender, and solidified the start of the end of the Seven Queen Revolt.
Battle of the Crystal Mountains-1038:
- The Reapers Coalition and the Forge of Equity collided in the treacherous mountainous region of the Crystal Mountains. The battle was characterized by guerrilla warfare tactics, ambushes, and skirmishes across rugged terrain. Both factions demonstrated resilience and adaptability, but ultimately The Reaper Coalition's knowledge of the terrain and resourcefulness allowed them to claim a hard-fought victory. This loss for the Forge of Equity was the last time they tried to move outside of urban environments seriously.
Siege of Dawnbreak Keep-1040-1041:
- The Forge of Equity besieged the fortified fortress of Dawnbreak Keep, held by the True Path. The siege was a grueling test of endurance, as the True Path's religious zealots employed psychological warfare and relentless assaults to weaken the Forge of Equity's morale and will. The siege lasted for months before the Forge of Equity finally breached the walls and captured the stronghold, dealing a significant blow to the True Path.
Battle of the Heavens-1048:
- A decisive clash between The Solstice Guard and the Luminary League, where the Solstice Guard's disciplined forces clashed with the True Path's fervent religious warriors. The battle showcased the clash of ideologies and the power of the heavens. This is considered one of the bloodiest battles to occur in Choslish history. The results of this battle effectively destroyed the Solstice Guard, and could never recover after it, only holding on to Dziewanna and the surrounding area after that.
Siege of Wenecja-1045-1047:
- The Luminary League, known for their strategic acumen, laid siege to the stronghold of the True Path, led by a warlord. The siege involved complex fortifications, subterfuge, and multi layered combat, through the air and sea. It took 2 years, and many lives were lost with it being one of the largest cities. The conditions within are said to be some of the worst, having much of its populace be forced under religious laws and having to resort to cannibalism and horrible acts to live.
Human Cost and Aftermath: The Seven Queen Revolt exacted a heavy toll on the populace of Choslow. The prolonged conflict led to widespread devastation, loss of life, displacement of communities, and economic decline. The suffering of the civilian population was immense, as they endured scarcity, famine, and the horrors of war.
In the aftermath of the war, the Luminary League would establish themselves as the new power and dynasty in the country. Out of the Seven factions, all of them took great casualties, the numbers estimate somewhere in the millions. Besides the Luminary League, other factions it was allied with came out better, such as the Forge of Equity and Harmony.
