Thyropinia is Gulbistan's primary city and acts as its financial, cultural, and tourism center. It is known by several named, and it commonly referred to by the Gulbistanis as "Darifun", the name of the city in the native Mershi language.
Etymology
The name "Thyropinia" originates from the original Piraean settlers during the latter period of the Lasithian Hegemony. The name is a merging of two Piraean words. Thyr- coming from Piraean θῠ́ρᾱ (thýra), meaning door, and -opinia, coming from ὄπῐον (ópion), meaning opion. The full name Thyropinia then means the "port of opium", due to the plant's cultivation in ancient Gulbistan. The endonym Darifun is a Mershi corruption of the Piraean name.
