The Type 40B-class submarine, officially named Type 40B Ombra (English: Type 40B Shadow)is a class of diesel-electric submarine in Tarsas' navy. It is Tarsas' second AIP powered submarine and presumed to be one of the quietest diesel-electric submarine classes in service. This class is the successor of the Type 40A submarine. The Type 40Bs are set to replace other aging submarines in the Submarine fleet and eventually join the Type 11 submarines in forming the backbone of the PNavy's conventional submarine fleet.

According to the Navy, the Type 40B is a traditional attack submarine with enhanced SLCM capabilities, with the submarine being capable of open-ocean operations and long-endurance operations in difficult to reach shallow waters in littoral areas of a coastline. The Type 40B is designed to be the forefront of the Navy's offensive capability in the littoral regions.
