The Type 61 was the first main battle tank made in Aomori for its Aomorinese Tank Regiments because of the Centurion being too large since the average Aomorinese was shorter than an average Lucian. The Type 61 became the mainstay of the Aomorinese Tank Regiment even after it had been superseded by the Type 74. In 2001, all Type 61s were replaced but were rather used for training and for the militia.
In Austrakiba, the Type 61 is still in use with the Agakiba Defence Forces having being upgraded numerous times, as well as the addition of the 105mm Rifled Gun.
