A land-locked nation, the Kingdom of Ublia or simply Ublia, was formed from the conquest of the pagan Viperian Princes during the Great Viperian Crusade by Weranic knights belonging to the Order of the Blood. These knights, than proclaimed their Grand Master, Ulrich I 'the Iron-Hearted' von Wolffberg, the first Grand Prince of Ublia and would begin to Weranify the local population and land for centuries to come through continued wars with their western neighbours until the 18th century. By that time a depleted power, the last independent Prince/Grand Master, Balthasar von Vogelweide decided to unite with the emerging Vredo-Samodeian Empire, making Ublia a federated and largely autonomous state within the Empire. This arrangement would last for centuries under first the hereditary Vogelweide dynasty and later their successors the von Gott and later von Gott-Watzky dynasties until the Great War. The Great War saw the infliction of massive casualties on the Royal Ublian Army that served alongside the Imperial one and than the invasion of Ublia followed by the revolt of the Viperians of the West, this combined with other issues led to the dissolution of the Vredo-Samodeian Empire and with it the independence of Ublia.
Following independence Ublia foudn itself reduced to the Weranic dominated Inner Ublia, the nation was forced by the communists to accept the division of the state -after a brief continued resistance- and finally effective vassalage to the Vredlandians. These humiliations resulted in the overthrow of the von Gott-Watzky Princes in the 1940's -amid growing economic hardships- and led to the brief proclamation of a democratic state, the Ublian People's Republic (UPR). The UPC period, proved short lived unfortunately, as it failed to overcome the economic fallout of the War and found itself frequently at risk from the communists, monarchists and failure of numerous governments culminating in a final overthrow of the Republic on September 23rd, 1953 by conservative officers. These officers, led by Colonel Marius von Wolffberg led to the proclamation of a brief junta and than a return to the Principality, with the Colonel becoming Grand Prince of Ublia. Marius I the Restorer's reign would see the imposition of a autocratic regime, but with it, a restoration of the economy -through conservative backing and exploitation of vast Ublian mineral deposits- and the imposition of a military build-up to counter Viperia. This build-up, though largely a strain, would pay off when communist Viperia collapsed under internal pressure and Ublian backed Weranic revolts in 1988, whch were followed by the successful invasion of Viperia that year. This led to the annexation of Viperia and under the aged Marius I, the proclamation of the current Kingdom of Ublia in 1990. Less than five months later the First Marian Period came to an end with the death of Marius I in 1991 and thus began the current Second Marian Period under his son Marius II, whose reign has seen a continued economic rise and a transition into a semi-Constitutional state after 1995.
