Umbra Automotive Oy, commonly referred to as Umbra, is a Valkean sports car manufacturer based in Korsholm, Valkea. It was founded by Tuomas Alatalo in 1995.
History
Tuomas Alatalo founded Umbra in 1995; prior to that he was head of Eloranta's special materials department from 1987 to 1992. He named the company after an annular solar eclipse that year that was seen over much of Northern Lorecia. Work began on the development of his own car, which at the time was named "Project 12C". In 1999, FMK agreed to supply Umbra with V12 engines for the project. It was finally revealed in 2003 at the Monsa Motor Show as the Umbra Shaman.
Over the next few years, Umbra steadily began to increase its production output and enter foreign markets. Newer iterations of the Shaman were released throughout the 2000s, including a track day version called the Umbra SuperVeloce. The SuperVeloce went on to break several records.
The Umbra Spectre debuted at the Monsa Motor Show in 2012, featuring a 962 hp 6.0L FMK V12. As with the Shaman, the Spectre saw other variants debut in later years. In 2019, Umbra debuted a limited-production track car called the Umbra Supernova.
