United Blue, Inc. is an Alexandrian-Prussian non-profit healthcare company based in Kingston, Alexandria-Prussia. United Blue was founded in 2012 when the United Blue Shield Group merged with Blue Cross of Greater Charleston, Inc., with the new company adopting the name, United Blue. It is the largest non-profit managed health care company and individual health insurer in the Alexandria-Prussia. But United Blue does operate several for-profit subsidiaries.
In December 2012, United Blue sold its ReadyRx subsidiaries to Indorian health conglomerate HealthNow for AP$2.785 billion.
History
United Blue is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association and serves its members it serves all of Alexandria-Prussia along with the Capital District. Kingston serves as the company’s national headquarters.
In 2013, United acquired Port Royal Health System from PRMG Capital.
In June 2013, Blue acquired Quick Contacts from MCA Enterprises. One month later, United acquired TMG Health.
Failed Acquisition of WellPoint Health System
In March 2012, John Sandler, CEO of Sun Flower Capital LLC, published a letter he sent to United Blue discussing a merger with WellPoint Health System. In May, 2013 WellPoint rejected the acquisition bid saying the AP$3.2 billion dollar offer was too low for the company, but said it remained open to further deal talks—which United said it found encouraging. United Blue then raised their offer to AP$6.5 billion and again was turned down by WellPoint. Both companies ended negotiations in June of 2012.
